TCC Needs Your Help!

📣 Hey, yall! We need to be honest with our community right now. 💔 We know this is long, but we want to explain.

Texas Critter Crusaders is in a very difficult financial position.

For the first time in a long time, we’ve had to seriously discuss limiting or closing intake because we simply don’t have the funds to keep saying yes at the pace that local animals need us.

It’s essential to understand TCC is a separate entity from the City Of Taylor, Texas Animal Shelter. We receive *no funding* from the city, yet we regularly up for foster needs, emergency medical care, TNR efforts, and other lifesaving support for *both* shelter and community animals. We don’t just “help” the the shelter. When we agree to take animals from the shelter into our foster program, we fully pay for their care. Food, litter, medical, you name it. It’s all on us! Our efforts also help keep animals out of the shelter in the first place.

This support is part of how our community continues keeping Taylor no-kill. When the shelter runs out of options, we’re often the safety net helping make one more “yes” possible.

But right now, funds are stretched dangerously thin.

These photos show just a small glimpse of the animals we’ve stepped up for recently. Their costs are listed with each photo because we want our community to truly understand the reality of our work. Medical emergencies, bottle babies, injured strays, parvo puppies, foster supplies, TNR, owner assistance cases — it adds up fast. And sometimes the costs can suddenly grow! For instance, we went in agreeing to a $3600 leg repair and spay surgery for shelter dog Luna, but after complications requiring in leg amputation, we’re facing an additional $6000 bill. Remember, this is only a sample of some recent animals to give you an example of the kinds of costs we encounter. There’s way more recent ones we don’t have space to include!

Everything we do at Texas Critter Crusaders is entirely volunteer-run and we rely on the support of our community to keep showing up for animals. ❤️ We’re just a small group of volunteers with regular full-time jobs trying to do what we can.

We never want money to be the reason an animal suffers or dies. We never want to look at an injured, sick, abandoned, or orphaned animal and have to say we can’t help.

But we can’t continue without support!

Every donation, no matter the amount, truly matters right now. Even if we were just able to get enough donated supplies to cover the amount we spend every two weeks in our foster homes, it would make a huge difference in helping us conserve our resources!🙏 We hold Supply Saturdays every two weeks where our volunteers hand out pet supplies to our foster homes and we’ve always got to make sure there’s enough to go around.

Pet of the Week: Lolly

I’m Lolly and I’m your PET OF THE WEEK! That’s right. The humans say I’m sweet as sugar, so they’ve given me this honor. How nice, right? First they give me a place to stay when I’m homeless and now they give me an award! I’m grateful, but I’m ready to move on and sweeten the life with my own forever family. Maybe it can be you? I’m great with kids of the human and canine variety.

I'm Lolly and I'm your PET OF THE WEEK!

Come meet me at the City Of Taylor, Texas Animal Shelter or call 512-352-5483 for more information.

PAWS UP to Terra Properties, Inc. for sponsoring my ad and for helping Texas Critter Crusaders help homeless dogs like me. We’re FUREVER grateful! ♥️ 🐾

Special senior dog looking for loving hospice home

November is “Adopt a Senior” month and we’ve got a special senior located at the City Of Taylor, Texas Animal Shelter looking for his forever family. His name is Sully. He was found at the tennis courts in Murphy Park and has been at the shelter since July 19. The fur on his neck was worn like he had a collar on at some point so he definitely belonged to someone. Sadly, nobody claimed him.

This is Sully - a Special senior dog looking for loving hospice home
Sully is house broken and loves female dogs his size or larger. He has health issues that can only be managed. Despite his age and health, he is still chipper and happy. If you are able to help this sweet boy enjoy his final days, please contact the Taylor Animal Shelter (Taylor, TX) at 512-352-5483.

Sully began to show signs of an illness that included weight loss and coughing, as well as a fainting episode. So the shelter staff reached out to us for help and we had Graef Veterinary Hospital check him out. Of course he’s heart worm positive, as most dogs that enter the shelter are. But his cough was being caused by fluid accumulation in his lungs; something similar to pneumonia. They also found that he has a heart murmur and an enlarged heart. It’s hard to tell if those issues are caused by the heartworm infection or if they were pre-existing conditions since there is no way to tell how many worms a dog is infected with unless you subject them to open heart surgery which he is definitely not healthy enough for. Xrays also revealed that his abdomen was filled with nothing but gas which would explain why he was losing weight despite being fed a very healthy serving every day. No blockages though, so food was basically going right through him.

Sully has a bucket list!

https://www.facebook.com/sullysbucketlist

After consulting with the vet we came to the conclusion that Sully was not a candidate for neuter surgery or heartworm treatment at this time. All we could do was treat him for the fluid in his lungs with antibiotics. Our best guess on his age is between 10 and 15 years. While at the shelter, he has become increasingly stressed. To the point that while he is definitely potty trained (keeps his kennel spotless) and enjoys being indoors, he HATES having to go back in his kennel.

BUT after changing his food to a more digestion friendly formula, he’s begun to put some of that weight back on! He’s not done yet! SULLY WANTS TO LIVE HIS BEST LIFE!

Here is a short video of Sully. We are trying to find a hospice home for him ASAP. He is very people friendly, housebroken and loves walks/car rides. He has a bad heart and lungs due to heart worms and advanced age. The vet says he most likely won’t make it thru heart worm treatment, which would have to be done before he was neutered. He is medium size and weighs less than 40lbs. He will be fine in a home with female dogs his size or larger, no cats though. If you are interested in helping him, please contact the shelter at 512-352-5483 for more.

If you can give Sully an inside home that is somewhat calm (he faints when he gets overly excited) where he can live out his life, please contact the Taylor Animal Shelter at 512-352-5483 or send us a message. A meet and greet with your dog(s) prior to him going home with you is required as well as proof of spay, no exceptions. Once he’s settled in after a month or two, we’ll have him re-evaluated at our vet (no cost to you) to see if there has been any change in his prognosis. Since this is a situation where he likely won’t be able to undergo any treatment for his conditions, Texas Critter Crusaders will be there to help with any medical costs his health may require.

Please share this so we can get Sully out of the shelter for how ever much time he has left.
